"The God of heaven will give us success, and we his servants will arise and build."

Over 120 years sowing the Gospel
The story begins in 1902. Brother Emilio V. Carbonell arrived in Colón from Havana with his devoted family, ready to sow the precious seed of the Gospel — bringing salvation and spiritual freedom to many souls.
On April 26, 1902, the Baptist Church of Colón was officially founded — the second in the province and one of the first in Cuba. Among the founding members were Enrique Racino, Otilio Díaz, Manuel Basnuevo, José Martínez, and other pioneers who helped the work flourish from its first steps.
In 1905, Rev. Francisco de Jesús Páez arrived to continue the work. Construction of the church building began and was inaugurated on May 19, 1907 — a beautiful wooden temple, the first built in our Convention, with the support of the Home Mission Board and Women's Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Throughout the 20th century, the church was led by faithful men and women of God who spread the Gospel throughout the region: Eugenio Calejo, José B. Silva, Agustín López Muñoz, Enrique Piña, Juan Francisco Naranjo — each leaving an indelible mark on the life of the congregation.
The beautiful temple we enjoy today was inaugurated on September 19, 1959. Designed after the architectural style of the previous building, it is one of the largest capacity temples built in Cuba.
The church has several worship ministries, including the "Enmanuel" music group, dance and mime ministries, youth ministry, and an elders ministry. Current pastor Samuel Betancourt, together with his wife Yuremys Sánchez, continues faithfully in the mission started over 120 years ago.

Our Baptist convictions, grounded in the Word of God
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God — our only and sufficient rule of faith and practice. It is authoritative in all it teaches.
We believe in one eternal God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God, and the three are one God.
We believe salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works, but by God's mercy through Christ's death and resurrection.
We believe baptism by immersion follows conversion, symbolizing death to sin and resurrection to new life in Christ.
We believe the local church is a congregation of baptized believers united to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, and minister to the world.
We uphold historic Baptist principles: freedom of conscience, separation of church and state, the priesthood of all believers, and Scripture's authority.
Pastor Samuel Betancourt faithfully leads the congregation of First Baptist Church of Colón, continuing the legacy of over 120 years of faithful ministry in the city of Colón, Cuba.
